This double CD contains 14 tracks, typically about ten minutes long each. For many of the tracks we are in doom laden territory! Minor chords with a breath like feel, more distant burbling, with something approaching a recognisable tune in the foreground.
The highlights of this album, in my opinion, are some of the finest electronic music ever created. Where Syneasthesia really shine is the structure and development within tracks. While some electronic music burbles on for a bit then stops, these tracks can grow and change impressively.
Consider the stand out track 'Lifeless'. It starts in typical moody minor key atmospherics, but a varied burbling low frequency sequence builds and starts to run under all the other sound. The shapeless start is soon behind us, as drums start adding force to the rhythms, the minor chords fade, and soon a warm, fuzzed up melody is soaring over the lower tones.
In case anyone is wondering, 'Syneasthesia' refers to one sense being interpreted as another, for example, when pressure on the eyes produces the sensation of colours.
There are many other powerful and moody tracks here - Lumia, Dark Core, and Surface system all impress mightily. But despite this the overall feel is a bit inconsistent, and some pieces are a bit of a let down.
