Review - Syndromeda, Birth of a black hole.

Syndromeda are definitely into the bleepy buzzy fuzzy phased stuff in a big way. The mood is set immediately with the first track, which chugs along nicely, a cheerful feel to it, with the occasional distorted voice over the top. Wooshy warbles come and go, and higher register keyboard themes too. It's over 20 minutes long and rather good, despite a somewhat cliched countdown in the middle. Surprisingly nothing obvious happens when the countdown reaches zero!

After this excellent start the second track is a bit mundane, and the third, 'Millennium Ready' is also a little weak, with the return of the distorted voice. (Think bad 70's television sci-fi robots).

But 'The sky is open' is much more innovative, with quiet piano, and a gentle dark background, very unlike the earlier tracks. This 20 minute piece starts slowly, but develops nicely building a sense of pace and tension as it goes. This is a lot less cheerful bleepy bloopy than the first track, and it works very well.

Track 5 'Love is the answer' is a sad piece, and to my mind, a weak ending.

So in total its a mixed bag, but saved by the longest tracks being the best tracks.

Overall: 7.5, The long bits are the best bits.
